Robert Freeman’s charity—The Global Uplift Project—just published its October newsletter.  The newsletter has an interesting story about how two high school students from Seattle taught high school students in Uganda how to make soap.  The Ugandan students have made soap available to more than 10,000 students at local schools!  The amazing thing is the cost.

It’s 7 cents to provide a school child soap for one year!  That’s because the high school students are doing the labor as part of their high school chemistry course AND as a community project.  Also, the raw materials (vegetable oil and lye) are absurdly cheap.  If our club donated $1,000, that would provide soap to 14,000 African children for a year.  You have to read the newsletter.
