Everyone is invited to join the fun Saturday, October 18, 3:00 - 7:00 pm, at Carnegie Park in Downtown Livermore! We are hosting the First Annual Community BBQ Bash & Fundraiser to bring our community together and raise funds to support community members in need.
We encourage non-profit community organizations and educators whose work aligns with our mission as Rotarians to apply for a grant of up to $1,000. We are grateful to be able to extend our reach into the community by partnering with our grant recipients.
Speaker: Mony introduced Elaine Cortez Schroth from 333 Arts Topic: Community, Creativity, and Collaboration through Public Art
Elaine shared the mission and impactful work of 333 Arts, a nonprofit organization dedicated to community connection and beautification through public art projects. A short video was presented showcasing the creation of the Oakland Peace mural in Jack London Square, a 2019 collaboration between three Oakland Rotary clubs.
She highlighted Creative Concord (2022–2024), an initiative featuring murals, sculptures, school-based art, and community music jams. The project has garnered numerous awards across California.
Key highlights about 333 Arts:
Prioritizes hiring local artists and ensures they are paid for their work.
Created a mural in the Kono District that includes representation of seven different languages.
Through their efforts, over $500,000 has gone directly to artist opportunities.
50% of participating artists report gaining new work after completing 333 Arts projects.
Featured projects include public art on Mare Island, new mosaics, sculptures, and murals across Concord, Lafayette, and Walnut Creek.
They maintain a Concord Mural Map to help residents and visitors engage with the artwork.
Funding comes primarily from private donations and matching contributions, with occasional grant support, including from the Lesher Foundation.
Elaine emphasized the value of public art as a tool for community engagement, cultural expression, and beautification.
Next week we are excited to welcome Don Swanson from Livermore Police Department to discuss scams locally, nationally and internationally and what you need to be aware of.
