Rotary Club of Livermore Valley ~ April 2022 Newsletter
It's Time to Volunteer!
This month we will distribute almost 2,000 books to 3rd and 4th graders in the 12 elementary school programs in the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District!
All members of our club as well as the noon club are invited to help with this project. Deliveries will start Tuesday, April 19 and go through Friday, April 29.
Rotarians volunteering to help with this project no longer need to show proof of COVID vaccination and do not have to complete the online Civicorp application, as was originally indicated.
Over 200 community volunteers joined together to plant 65 trees in Livermore on Saturday, March 12th. Thanks to everyone who participated! Pictured, left to right: Suzanne Richerson, Dave Goulart, Angelika Voss-Quinn, Philomena Rambo, Dennis Gambs, Graham Scott, Cheryl Bowers, Sarah Palmer. Tammy Barstow and James Hays missed the photo op but helped out by seeking shovel donations and showing up to help plant.
Congratulations to Will Taggart, our February Student of the Month!
Will is an outstanding student, with a 4.37 Grade Point Average, reflecting a rigorous list of courses including Honors and Advanced Placement. Will has been instrumental as a leader and activist, campaigning in support of anti-tobacco legislation, including encouraging the Livermore City Council to pass new laws. Will is active in student clubs, serving as secretary of both the Interact Club and the Medical Professionals Club. He was a key member of the Livermore team that presented to and helped win the All America City Award in 2021.
Will hopes to attend college on the East Coast, where he will study public health or global health, with a minor in biology.
Pallavi Badri, pictured above, is our March Student of the Month. Pallavi shows her leadership skills as president of the Granada Mock Trial club, co-president and co-founder of the GHS Gender Equality Society, and as secretary of the Model United Nations Club. Pallavi shared that getting involved in clubs helped her feel more connected to Granada and her fellow students.
Pallavi plans to major in cognitive science or psychology. She hopes to attend UCLA or UC San Diego in the fall.
As global citizens and members of Rotary, we are deeply saddened by the suffering of individuals in Ukraine, brought on by the military aggression of Vladimir Putin. Many organizations are working on our behalf to support those in need of care. Here are two opportunities within Rotary to donate to support this care and relief:
