TODAY'S PROGRAM: LVJUSD Update
We welcomed LVJUSD Superintendent Torie Gibson, Ed. D.
Dr. Torie Gibson is a member of the noon Rotary club. She is in her second year as Superintendent of the Livermore School District. Since joining LVJUSD, she resolved the district’s qualified budget and structural deficit, launched a comprehensive five-year strategic plan, and has worked to create updated and sound practices for our special education programming. Central to her leadership has been the building of a strong, collaborative team focused on a foundation of transparency and trust. Under her leadership, the district created two budget advisory committees, a special education parent advisory committee, and an English Language Development (ELD) committee that represent her commitment to those priorities, providing parents and community members with added opportunities to deepen their knowledge and involvement in the district.
Torie said the LV schools need $1.4-$1.8 B in facility upgrades. There is a severe budget deficit and they need to make $14M in cuts by March 2026. 85% of their budget is people. More than half of the districts area in the same position. They will have to lay off about 100 employees by March.
Torie said her highest priority is to get through this budget crisis.
Marc Roberts announced that starting February, that the Rotarian Foundation of Livermore be kicking off the fundraiser for the Alan Frank Community Room at the Railroad Depot. We need the Clubs to raise $20K to meet the goal. More information to follow.
Ambassdors of Compassion Kickoff Postponed. New date TBD Contact Rich Goldstein for details.
Chalk Talk with Ed Schumann
Ed Rose won the Farmers Insurance Golf tournament. He was 23 strokes under par! He took home $1.7M. Total winnings throughout his career? $75M
Ed's joke was, of course, too long to include in this newsletter. Let's just say it had many dead worms in it. The punch line: "As long as you drink, smoke and eat chocolate, you won't have worms." Ask Ed for details.
