TODAY'S PROGRAM: SLEEP IN HEAVENLY PEACE
Club member Dave Goulart presented to us on Sleep in Heavenly Peace. We have heard from Dave before about this wonderful organization. Sleep in Heavenly Peace has one primary goal: to ensure no child sleeps on the floor. He works with the Alameda County Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP). SHP has chapters throughout the country, and now in some parts of Canada and Mexico.
Many of our club members, and other local Rotarians have helped support this organization through donations and hands-on labor. No one is too old or too young to help when they do bed builds. There is a build event coming up at the end of February for Rotarians specifically. The builds are done at Crosswinds Church in Livermore.
Beds are provided for children ages 3-17 at no charge. Beds include bedding, and beds are delivered to homes, where assembly is finished and bedding put on the bed. For many children, this is their first bed.
The Alameda County Chapter of SHP has build 1,530 beds. The number of beds built by the organization as a whole is 365,907!
The need is great. At this time, there are over 400 requests for beds in Alameda County.
Thank you, Dave, for your hard work with this organization, and your informative talk to us this morning!
